My FIRST ever children’s book

For ages 4 - 10 yrs.

Mom and Dad are pulling out of the driveway one evening while Scotty, despondent due to missing his parents and feeling lonely, looks out through the living room window with his dachshund Bentley by his side. When his older brother Michael won’t play with him and makes him go to bed, Scotty and Bentley don their NoteBoy and NoteDog superhero disguises and sneak out of the bedroom. They are off for a mischievous romp through the house pursued by Captain Splatter (Michael) and his henchmen; leaving a trail of sticky notes for his parents to find when they return. Scotty’s parents return home and find the notes, commenting on Scotty’s imagination and ability to express his real feelings through writing—they don’t know Scotty and Bentley are hiding and listening. The story ends with an invitation from the authors: “You, too, can be a NoteBoy or NoteGirl.”

NoteBoy was inspired by Brian Kagan. As a six-year-old, whenever his parents went out for the evening and left him alone with his older brother, Brian would assuage feelings of loneliness and boredom by playing make-believe and leaving notes for his parents to find throughout the house. NoteBoy is the first book of a planned trilogy—NoteBoy, NoteGirl, NoteKids—addressing themes of loneliness, mixed families, disabilities, acceptance, friendship, and bullying.
